Nineteen-year-old Nayeli works at a taco shop in her Mexican village and dreams about her father, who journeyed to the US to find work. In fact, there are almost no men in the village -- they've all gone north. While watching The Magnificent Seven, Nayeli is inspired to go north herself and recruit seven men to repopulate her hometown and protect it from the bandidos who plan on taking it over. Will she succeed in her quest? Teens are invited to join us on Thursday, October 15 at 6:00 pm for a virtual discussion of "Into the Beautiful North" by Luis Alberto Urrea. In partnership with Eastern Connecticut State University's Big Read, we have multiple eBooks in English and Spanish available. Email us at [email protected] to request a print or electronic copy and to register for the program. Join us online Thursdays, August 27, September 24, and October 29, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Email [email protected] to receive the link to the online meeting and shared folder. Original written works are read and, if desired, constructive comments are offered by group members. Everyone that attends at least one meeting will be eligible to submit up to two written works for inclusion in our first annual collection.
